Liturgy
The Liturgy Committee
This committee helps plan liturgies for the various seasons of the church year. This includes Advent, Christmas, Lent, The Triduum, Easter, Pentecost as well as daily Eucharist. Members of the Liturgy Committee are asked to study the various Liturgical Documents of the Church.
Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors
Extraordinary Ministers of The Eucharist, under the direction of the Liturgical Committee, assist the Presider in the distribution of the Eucharist at all parish liturgies that they are assigned to cover. Additional training is available for those who wish to minister to the sick and homebound of our parish and serve the community living at our local home care centers.
Lectors, also under the direction of the Liturgical Committee, proclaim the Word of God at our weekly and daily liturgies and at various special prayer services during the church year.
Under Diocesan guidelines, both the pastor and the Diocese must approve people asking to be Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors. Prior t serving, they are required to attend Diocesan and parish training. Once they begin serving, Diocesan guidelines require ongoing attendance at parish meetings and Days of Prayer.
Altar Servers
Altar Servers are liturgical ministers whose role is to assist the priest and deacon at Mass and at special liturgies during Holy Week. Altar Servers perform their ministry so that our worship at liturgy can be more prayerful and meaningful.
Music Ministry/Choir
Our music ministry serves to assist the assembly in prayer through song and instrumental music at Mass and at various special liturgies during the liturgical seasons. The parish choir sings music from all genres, exploring music from our earliest tradition to the latest contemporary literature of our church. We encourage children to participate at family Mass with the children’s choir.
Ushers and Greeters
Ushers and Greeters are Ministers of Hospitality; men, women and young adults who assist at Mass and other services. Ushers greet parishioners in the Gathering Area, assist in seating the congregation, collect the Gifts at the offertory, assure an orderly communion procession, respond to special needs of parishioners, straighten up after the Mass/Service, assist new parishioners who wish to register in the parish and provide hospitality.
Altar Linens
Cleanliness is next to Godliness. The Altar Linen Ministry is privileged to ensure that all Altar cloths and linens used at Mass, liturgical ceremonies and baptisms are worthy of God’s altar by washing and ironing them weekly.
Plant and Flower Ministry
Weekly maintenance and rearranging of the plants and flowers keeps our worship area and Parish Center beautiful and inviting. If you possess a green thumb, this ministry is for you.
Church Ministry
Altar/Sanctuary: These men and women clean and care for the altars, sanctuary and church. At Christmas and Easter time, they wash all the statues and altars; the pews are waxed and polished. Candles are replaced when needed. The general upkeep of our church is taken care of by these dedicated people and is an important part of the smooth function of the liturgy.
