Education and Formation
Adult Faith Formation and Education
This ministry sponsors programs on various topics, which are meant to promote spiritual growth and nourish the learning desires of the Parish Community. Programs are offered throughout the year, both during the day and the evening. Members of the Committee meet on a periodic basis to determine the speakers and curriculum for the coming season.
The Sacred Hearts Adult Faith Formation assists adult Catholics to grow in their love, knowledge, commitment and zeal for our faith. We plan and host activities designed to help parishioners to more fully understand and live their faith.
Religious Education Program
This program is geared to families with children in the elementary and junior high school to aid in their spiritual formation process. We prepare our children for the sacraments and enhance their knowledge of our faith.
It is in session in the parish center from fall to spring for parents and children. Children study with volunteer catechists (religion teachers)
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
Members of this committee journey with those adults who are unbaptized and those who have been baptized into another Christian tradition through four formation periods: Inquiry, Catechumenate, Enlightenment and Mystagogia. They provide settings for scripture sharing, faith sharing and education on the Catholic faith. Members plan entry rites into the Catholic Church.
Pre-Cana Ministry
The Pre-Cana Ministry assist engaged couples as they prepare for marriage. To prepare for this program, the married couples in charge of the Pre-Cana, attend a training program to learn the “art of facilitation”. Pre-Cana helps engaged couples develop a strong faith and learn the skills needed for a successful marriage in today’s world. The married couples share their faith, practical information and life experiences. In addition, there is interaction between the married and engaged couples, which is designed to stimulate discussion between partners. The activities and discussions are enjoyable and enable all the participants, married and engaged, to deepen their faith and understanding of each other. As one Pre-Cana member said, “By our participation in marriage preparation, grow and renew our own marriages.”
Baptism
The Baptism Ministry helps to first prepare parents of infants being presented for baptism and then to support these families as they raise young children in the Catholic faith.
